HOMESTEAD EXTENDS ITS FREE MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM
Yes, that’s true. Last year Homestead Schools located in Torrance offered a
pilot program in medical assisting to all students completely FREE. This program
was so successful that Homestead is renewing the offer for the next class which
is set to start in June. Students from the first class are presently undergoing
internship in various medical clinics, physicians’ offices, etc. and slated to
graduate in May. Regular tuition for a medical assisting program runs $10,000,
but here you will pay nothing.
Medical assisting is a six-month program on a full-time schedule which includes
classroom instruction and internship in a medical clinic or physician’s office.
The program prepares students to work in the front or back office assisting
registered nurses or physicians in the office.
In
the front-office role, a medical assistant may work in the reception area
answering phones, interacting with patients, scheduling appointments, verifying
insurance, gathering patient information, performing computer data entry and
other office work. As a medical assistant you’ll also be collecting payments,
posting them to accounts, and doing patient billing, recordkeeping, and
administrative duties.
In
the back-office environment, you may interview and record patient history,
prepare patients for exams and procedures, take vital signs, collect specimens,
communicate with outside labs, and perform routine tests and procedures under
the supervision of a physician.
As
you can see, medical assistants work in an exciting, fast-paced office
atmosphere where they have a chance to help patients and work with other medical
professionals. They have an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge
they’ve gained in the school and become experienced in administrative and
clinical functions. Becoming a medical assistant will earn you an entry into the
enviable and highly respected field of health care.
The earnings of medical assistants vary, depending on their experience, skill
level, and location. Most medical assistants earn between $25,000 to $30,000 and
with experience go on to higher positions and better pay.
Students seeking admission to the medical assisting program must be at least 18
years of age, must possess a high-school diploma or GED equivalent, and must be
proficient in English.
Homestead Schools is a leading provider of education in the nursing field. Their
vocational nursing program draws consistent praise from the local community and
the school has a formidable passing rate of 100% for its graduates. The school
actively assists its students in getting suitable employment in their respective
fields.
Now the school wishes to establish a similar reputation in the medical assisting
area. It wants to start a pilot program of 15 qualified and ambitious students
who’ll assiduously pursue the program, graduate with honors, and obtain
employment in medical offices in the South Bay area. Using that as a model, the
school will expand the program on a continuous enrollment basis throughout
Southern California.
Toward that goal, the school is willing to offer its first program to 15
students with absolutely free tuition. You’ll have to pay for your uniform and
basic equipment costing about $150, but otherwise there’s no cost to your
schooling.
